I told you to save those use coffee grounds!
In my previous post, I let you know how you could make iced coffee like the pros. The end result is killer cold brew and a bajillion used coffee grounds. Instead of just tossing them, I decided to make a body scrub that not only smells like your favorite coffee house and bakery combined, but also is incredibly good for your skin.
Using only five commonly-found-in-your-pantry ingredients, this exfoliating scrub is as easy to make as..well…coffee! Below is the skinny on these powerhouse ingredients.
Used coffee grounds: Coffee has caffeine, caffeine draws out excess moisture from your skins–this creates smoother and firmer looking skin. Who doesn’t love that?! Coffee is also a great anti-inflammatory because it’s so incredibly rich in antioxidants. If you’re using grounds not from cold brew, make sure your grounds are room-temp or even refrigerated before use.
Coconut oil: Another great use for this stuff! Coconut oil is an awesome moisturizer (Seriously. Use it in your hair, on your sunburn, etc.) and makes your skin smooth and shiny. It’s also filled with vitamins and minerals to keep skin healthy. If your oil is solid, zap it in the microwave for 30 seconds to liquify.
Brown sugar: This acts as another exfoliant, buffing away the dead skin and leaving you with an awesome glow. If you don’t have brown sugar, use a course ground sugar of any kind (I even threw in some sucanat–dried cane sugar–because it’s very course…and also I can’t stand the taste of it–gotta use it where I can!).
Cinnamon: Said to help with blood flow, cinnamon quickly brings blood to the surface of your skin and helps smooth away bumps and wrinkles. It also kills bacteria on the skin’s surface.
Vanilla extract: Used in the recipe to help this scrub smell like a cookie. VERY important.
Mix ingredients, store in an airtight container, and use in the shower. As with any body scrub, make sure you rinse with warm water to prevent a clogged drain.
