Mindless snacking has always been an issue for me.
Chips during The Real Housewives, pretzels during Sex and the City. A cookie or two* while blog surfing.
I don’t even notice it. My mind is so focused on Andy Cohen being his usual charming self. He’s badgering Ramona about her cheating husband and I’m yelling at the TV screen, “We all know he did it, Ramona! Just answer the question!”
And the next thing I know, the Snyder’s bag is empty.
Note to self: NEVER trust yourself with a bag of pretzels that isn’t single portion. A lesson learned dozens of times.
I know I could just substitute fruit for those pretzels. But fruit isn’t a satisfying snack.
There, I said it. The thing that everyone thinks but no one says, because the first commandment in the dieter’s bible states: “Thou Shalt Substitute Chips For Fruit.” And although it may be heresy, I firmly believe that an apple will never replace my beloved Snyder’s gluten-free pretzels*.
*I eat GF pretzels simply because they’re more crunchy. I do not actively maintain a GF diet nor do I try to.
It was sometime last week that I was catching up with my old friends Carrie, Samantha, Charlotte, and Miranda. Samantha was telling scandalous stories and Charlotte was blushing, and I…well, I was fumbling through my pantry searching for a snack.
All I could think to myself was, “Thou Shalt Not Polish Off The Pretzels In One Sitting.”
And so I prayed to the dieting gods to send a snack upon me so satisfying it would make me forget all about my salty, crunchy, twisty (eh, pretzels are twisty, right? That’s an accurate description) addiction. And then I remembered the first commandment–so I reached for some fresh raspberries.
And chocolate chips.
I mean, the bible says nothing about avoiding chocolate chips.
I stuffed a single morsel into the cavity of each berry, I sat down in front of my four favorite New Yorkers, and I mindlessly munched until my heart’s content.
And that’s how chocolate stuffed raspberries were born.
Chocolate Stuffed Raspberries
Yield: 30-35 raspberries
Serving size: 30-35 raspberries

- 30-35 raspberries
- 1 tablespoon semi-sweet chocolate chips (about 30-35 chips)
- Place one chocolate chip inside each berry.
- Eat and eat and eat and eat and eat and watch TV while eating.
